I bought a Gray Tree Frog at the mall yesterday. How big does the tank need to be? He's in a 2.5 gallon right now. What kind of bedding should I use? I have newspaper down right now. Should I give him a bowl of water? I've been spraying him with a water bottle. Does he need something to climb on? I've put a rock in the tank with him.
That 2.5 gallon tank should only be very temporary. The gray tree frog will need a 10 gallon tank in order to be healthy and happy, 15 gallon tank if you want two. Coco fiber bedding is best, and use a low att bulb to provide mild heat for them. He will need a large saucer-like water dish to take a soak in.
In the ten gallon, he'll want more than a rock to climb on. Make it interesting, driftwood and other structures should provide interest while looking natural, for example.
Below is more care information than can be provided in one post.

~The tank should really be a twenty gallon with a screen lid. I know it seems very large, but he will be spending his entire life in there.
~As for bedding I think the easiest and least expensive is bed-a-beast. It comes in a small brick and when you add water it expands and one brick could last you for two cleanings. As a temporary bedding put down paper towel. The newspaper ink could be bad for your frog. You have to remember that they absorb everything through their skin.
~For a bowl of water make sure that it is shallow. Tree frogs aren't great swimmers and can actually drown. Petsmart has many shallow dishes to choose from.
~Spraying him is perfect. Buy a hygrometer to keep track of his humidity.
~Yes he would love something to climb on. He is a tree frog after all. You could buy him little fake trees, and thick branches. Make sure that anything he will be climbing on is secure. I have this cool thing of cascading leaves that my frog is always climbing on, and it suction cups to the side of the terrarium.
~Heating and lighting is also very important for pet amphibians. Because they cannot get these things naturally, it must be supplied by the pet owner in the form of special light fixtures and light bulbs. The best fixture is the Arizona Hot Lamp because it is adjustable, making it easier to get the perfect temperature. I only bought one fixture and switch the bulb out for day and night. The best bulbs for him would be the exo terra day-glo, and the exo terra night-glo. Always use a thermometer to be sure that he isn't overheating. A good daytime temperature for the gray tree frog is 75, and may go down to 65 at night.
Good luck with your frog!
